Dr. Aoife Ahern (WP3 leader) and Prof. Joan Ramon Casas (WP2 leader) from TRUSS attended “The Future of the Doctorate” conference in Riga on the 28th -29th May 2015 organized by the European Commission. The conference addressed the changing nature of doctoral studies in Europe and further afield and considered how doctoral students might be better prepared for the future.
The conference included presentations on a number of models of PhD from around the world: including Canada, the UK and South Africa. Some considerable time was spent on discussing the training of PhD students and the transferable skills necessary for their future careers.
